Approximately how much will it cost to replace the power steering pump in my 97 ford taurus?

Here's the situation. My husband and I don't know anything about cars and he hasn't put any power steering fluid in his car for a while and it started getting difficult to turn. So I put some fluid in there and there was no change. The next day I put more in the resevoir and then let the car run for a while and then drove it. When i looked where the car was parked there was a small puddle of power steering fluid on the ground, but i didn't spill any. So i assumed their was a leak. I got power steering fluid with leak protection. Anyway I drove it again today after putting more fluid in and it is leaking in a different place, still leaking power steering fluid. So my question is what is the usual cost for the replacement of the pump (if that is the problem) because i don't want to get ripped off because i'm naive. Also is that what you guys think is wrong, or just a like a broken seal, or leaking hose or something? Thank you.Approximately how much will it cost to replace the power steering pump in my 97 ford taurus?ill bet it isnt the pump. i dont recall ever seeing a ford pump go bad and leak fluid. its usually the rack and pinion cylinder, and there around 500.00 to replace, material and labor. i'd check for a used one in yellow pages, auto parts, used- buy that one, then call service places for a price on labor. most here in colorado (dealers) all charge over 100.00 per hour labor, and that job is prolly 1 1/2 to 2 hours labor.....hope its just a hose ..good luck.Approximately how much will it cost to replace the power steering pump in my 97 ford taurus?Could be just a hose because they can crack after a while. It shouldn't cost a lot to fix it. Do not let them say %26quot;oh you need a new power steering pump and it's gonna cost $1000%26quot; If that's the case, take it somewhere else, don't even negotiate because they are trying to rip you off. Good luck.Approximately how much will it cost to replace the power steering pump in my 97 ford taurus?Replace the swollen hose

As the hose swells from heat and use, it naturally swells, this will create a leak around where it connects to the pump, thus leaking. Try a clampApproximately how much will it cost to replace the power steering pump in my 97 ford taurus?ehhhh i had a taurus around the same year as your and same problem cost about 300

  • Removing a Power steering pump 93 dodge grand caravan.?

I have a 93 dodge grand caravan. I have replaced the pulley, serpentine belt and now I found the real problem of my (eaten belts). It is my power steering pump. The wheel on it is hollowed out on the inside. the wheel on it appears to be made of a soft metal. So I purchased just the wheel to put on to it. *They told me I would only need the wheel at Autozone*.

I need a diagram or some detailed instructions of how to remove the psp and how to change the wheel. I'm sure it will need to be pressed on. I have never done this and can't really afford any mechanics in this area. Even the unlicensed mechanics charge an arm and a leg :(Removing a Power steering pump 93 dodge grand caravan.?This is not a job for an amateur. I have been a certified Chrysler mechanic for 25 years and it is by far the most difficult pump to install. after it is off about three hours and with quite a few bad words you still have to r%26amp;r the pulley. the problem is not taking it off it is getting it out of the car. like putting a bowling ball in a pool pocket. it is just too big. If you still want to try it go the the dealer and buy a factory service manual. it is more expensive but it will give you step by step instructions. haynes and chilton consumer manauls are a waste of money.Removing a Power steering pump 93 dodge grand caravan.?Go to autozone, murrays, advance, napa and get a Chilton's repair manual for a 93 Dodge van.....they might not have it in stock but can get it in a day or two.....Chilton's repair manuals covers everything from soup to nuts on any model.....they have very nice diagrams showing how to do most maintenance....check it out.

Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?

$230! Granted, this was for a synthetic oil change. However, the oil change place hit me (again) with auto transmission fluid and power steering fluid change rec. So, I went for it. This is for a 2005 Chrysler T%26amp;C (caravan). I have about 77,000 miles and haven't done these changes since I bought it new in '05.

In general, is this kind of stuff necessary on this kind of vehicle? Also, how hard would it be to do it myself? They said they had some sort of pump for the power steering, etc. I don't have that, but I do have a pretty good toolset, jack, etc. I've got another car (2000 SAAB 9-3) that has about 60,000 on it. So, I also want to know what I need to do on it at this time beyond the usual repairs and oil changes. It has a manual transmission. Thanks for any help!Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change? That is a chunk all at once but they should be done. The price does not seem out of line for what they did. As for doing it yourself, the trans fluid is hard to do since you should flush the cooling lines and the torque converter as well. That is why they use an in-line fluid exchange while the car is running.

The Saab should also have the fluids changed but the manual can be done by you since it won't have cooling lines to mess with. I'd wait untill I needed a clutch and do it when the trans is out.Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?all you need is a bucket to catch the oil manual transmissions no advantage in changing the oil.. power stearing change oil what a rip off.. synthentick oil is not needed.. if you change the oil every 3 thousand and the filter.. use a straight viscosity 30 in the winter 40 and 50 in the summer.. all you need is a 5/8 wrench to open the oil drain.. the used oil place in a five gallon can.. the places that change oil will take it and put in their tank no charge.. buy penns oil or valvoline ok .Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?tranny fluid is recommended every 30,000 p/s flush recommended every 15,000. trans isnt hard just drop the plug drain the oil and put plug in and refill p/s needs a pump to pump out fluid and refill. foreign vehicles normally call for maintenance services every 30,000 miles call dealer for a service menu. do not flush if you havent done it from the start could damage trannyDid I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?Referring to the owner's manual for recommended maintenance intervals is the only way to know for sure if they told you to change the fluids before they actually needed to be changed. As far as I know, however, most modern automatic transmissions don't require a fluid change that soon (and they don't require the P/S fluid to be changed that soon either...)

You can change your own oil at home using a set of ramps, an oil collection pan, a crescent wrench (for the oil plug) and a filter-wrench for the oil filter in less than 30 minutes. As long as you have somewhere to dispose of the oil (like Autozone or a local recycling center), it's easy. Changing other fluids can be more difficult - often times it's easy to drain the fluids (like in a transmission), but hard to re-fill them.Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?Okay as a mechanic, I say every 30000 miles you need to get your tansmission serviced. but thats only on an automatic. the power steering flush i dont understand unless the fluid was burnt up. The amount is not that bad because of the amount of work and the prices of synthetic oil. But these are all things you can do. you do have to be very careful when you do a trans. service though. oil change is no problem. but if you hve the right guy looking at it when you go in he can inform you of a major problem you might have in the future.Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?Sounds like they they took you for a ride in you own car and you don't remember. You should be able to get a service manual from your local library to help you. doing the oil changes is not too hard once you have done it it will be easier next time

As for a pump a large syringe with a plastic tube attached will do. Nearly all the cheep tools you can get from your cheaper auto shops

How do I change the power steering belt on a 1985 Oldsmobile 98 3.8L V6?

I have a 1985 Oldsmobile 98 3.8L V6 and the belt that seems to run the power steering and the water pump is very loose and worn out. It is inside the belt that runs the Alternator etc. I know with the alternator loosening the one bolt allows it to move down to remove the belt and up to tighten it back up so I can do that to get to the power steering belt but how do you take the power steering belt on and off? What keeps and releases the tension so I can change it out? Thanks in advance for any answers. I will choose however gives me the best answer. How do I change the power steering belt on a 1985 Oldsmobile 98 3.8L V6?This should be the setup you have, if it uses V-belts, as opposed to a Serpentine multi-groove belt.

    http://www.autozone.com/images/cds/gif/l

Loosen the 3 bolts/nuts that have asterisks next to them. Note that one nut is in the back. When you tighten belt, be careful prying against the pump, as the reservoir case bends easily, and you could make it leak. Best to pry against the top/front area. Also, there are 2 bolts to loosen on the Alternator. One that goes through the slot, and another that serves as a pivot point. Easier to move if you loosen both. If it already was loose enough that you didn't have to loosen the pivot bolt, make sure you tighten it when you're done. How do I change the power steering belt on a 1985 Oldsmobile 98 3.8L V6?i had a pontiac 6000 I think is similiar...there should be a tensioner...a kind of do nothing pulley that the belt runs through...normaly there is a nut/bolt that secures it in place or it is a constant tension type. there is alwys a spot to adjut it.sometimes it is a 3/8 drive socket(square you turn it in desired direction to temporarily release the tension, while knocking the belt off...

  • Power steering cost and reasons for failure?

3 weeks ago my steering goes on my 2005 chevy silverado with 36k miles. I take it in to the shop they charge 380 after tax to fix the power steering pump. I asked them what could cause this to happen with such low miles they said either wear or defective unit. then 3 weeks later same thing happens. I take it back they say its the power steering gearbox now. that cost me 630 dollars after tax. I cant afford to get this steering fixed once a month. How do I know the gearbox was the source of all this crap. They missed the gearbox being shot the first time around how do i know its not something simple that is putting pressure on the gearbox and pump? SHould be no reason for failure at 36k miles. Fluid level has aways been checked. I have got to say comparing my business with other industries my Business blows any other business away as far as service and guarantees goes. I give the customer a price to fix a problem and if i dont i go back no charge. As far as paying the mechanic to change the power steering pump i think it was a half *** job. I went there to get the steering fixed not to have him replace a broken part there is a difference. He missed the gearbox the first time even after asking him what could cuase the pump to break.

so 1.did they charge a fair price? 1100 total for gearbox and pump.

    2. why wouldnt thye have seen relized the gearbox was shot the first time.

3 what could cuase all that crap to break in the first place and should they have known or checked in other areas. I would think they would seeing how unuasual the repair is.

Normally after i get my car fixed i am worry free. I walked at worried this crap is going to blow up on me lose my steering becuase they missed something lose control of my truck and kill someone becuase of there incompitencePower steering cost and reasons for failure?with that low miles, shouldn't it be covered under the factory warranty? Its not going to blow up and you lose your steering, Do you have aftermarket wheels, such as 20 inch rims or bigger? they will cause the power steering and parts to wear prematurely and go out. 1100 sounds about right for both parts fixed with labor and parts.

How long can a squeaking power steering pump be left alone?

So yesterday I start pulling out of my driveway in my '89 LeSabre (Vin C 3800 motor, pump has 220k miles) when I noticed my power steering feeling wonky and the pump making a terrible noise. I check the fluid and it was foamy, yellow, and super low. I must have a small leak and the empty space must have gotten filled with condensation (was raining all day) and then mixed with the remaining fluid. I sucked out the old fluid and poured in some fresh fluid and off to school I went.

So... I check it again today and its super low... again.... at least its not foaming this time. However, the pump has developed a squeak so its time for a new one. I'm actually going to salvage the pump and lines off an '89 Bonnie parts car but I can't get at for a couple days.

    So my questions:

    1. Can I drive my car with the bad pump for a couple hundred miles and be ok? I commute a pretty good distance to school but I should be able to swap out the pump in about a week. I'll keep the fluid topped off in the mean time and the squeaking isn't terrible right now.

    2. How exactly is the pumped changed out? 2x 13mm bolts to the motor and then a couple 10mm fittings to the rack, then pull the lines and pump out as an assembly?

Thanks for any input folks :)How long can a squeaking power steering pump be left alone?Yes you can still drive the car with a squeaking power steering pump. Can't really tell you how long the pump will last but even if it goes out completely it is still drivable just really hard to turn. If you want to get a little more time out of the pump fill it up with transmission fluid. It is thicker than steering fluid so it will not leak as fast and will still work Just fine. and to change the pump as long as the pulleys are the same you just unhook the lines unbolt the pump and replace. If the pulley is different you will need to get them both pressed off and the new one pressed on to the pump. most parts stores should have the tool for this to rent. How long can a squeaking power steering pump be left alone? The one thing you have neglected to mention is %26quot;where the leak is%26quot;...THAT is what needs to be repaired before you even consider how long you can drive with a squeaky pump. Allowing the pump to run low everyday is just asking for a more catastrophic failure that would likely cost more money...How long can a squeaking power steering pump be left alone? If you keep it topped off you will be ok. I had one go dry and finally after 3000 miles it went out. I think it lasted so long is because a small bit stayed in the pump to lubricate it.

good luck on #2 question. It really shouldn't be too difficult. It might be easier to remove the lines 1st. If you have access to tubing wrenches will help the chance of rounding off corners of the fittingsHow long can a squeaking power steering pump be left alone?power steering is only to make slow speed turning easier and is not a major requirement but you could need a new rack and pinion/steering box depending on type of steering and where the leak is....the bad noise is proberbly because of the pump working on low fluid

Changing power steering pressure hose on 97 monte carlo.?

i have a very very diffacult model monte carlo. three of my spark plugs are at the back of my engine, my alternater is at the bottom of the engine, under the power steering pump, so if i had a leak in the pump my alternater would be ****** (wich is just what happened) well acually the leak is in the hose witch brings me to my qeustion. how the heck do i change my pressure hose the runs behind the middle of the engine. i have tried taking the dog bone off the front and the engine just wont roll forward. there has got to be something else holding it on.

so can you tell me how to roll it forward.

or another way to go about it.Changing power steering pressure hose on 97 monte carlo.?To change the power steering hose you will have to put the car in the air, and loosen the sub-frame to gain access to the connections on the steering rack. If you take the two rear bolts loose, and support the sub-frame, you should be able to gain access to the rack.

This is one of those jobs that you really need a lift to do properly.

  • About the power steering pump on a 1990 Ford F150....?

I am wondering why, now that power steering pump on my truck has been changed, the pulley will no longer stay on. When my dad originally changed the pump he did not have the proper tool to press it back on, so he hammered it on. Ever since it was hammered it on the pulley will no longer stay on. We have tried another new pump but the pulley is the same. Anyone have any Ideas on how I can keep the pulley on. Will a locking nut or something keep it on?About the power steering pump on a 1990 Ford F150....?The only thimg I can think of, is to weld it in place, or use some JB WELD ORIGINAL, not the QUICK type. If you use the JB WELD, you need to let it cure for 24 hours, before you put the belt back on. Good luck.About the power steering pump on a 1990 Ford F150....?The pulley is definitely damaged. Could it be fixed? Most likely... yes, by a machinist. However, the odds are that it would cost you less just to get a new or used one that's in serviceable shape and install it the right way... rather than hammer it on which will damage it too. They are pressed on and pulled off by using specific tools, as you most likely already know. Whatever you do, make sure it's done right when you get another one.

As you found out, a new pump won't solve your problem. Pumps come WITHOUT the pulley on purpose. Why? Because various engines in various vehicles use different pulleys. They all may use the same pump however... but the pulley sizes or even the number of slots they have for belts may be different. So there you have it. You keep your pulley because it obviously works with your rig.

If you know a machinist that can hook you up, they should be able to dial in the pulley on a lathe or milling machine and overbore the shaft hole. They can then machine and press in a repair sleeve and re-bore it to factory specs. That repair if done right will last a lifetime. As I said though... paying a machinist to do what is required to fix your pulley will most likely cost more than another pulley.

As for installing a locking nut, there shouldn't be any threads on the pump's shaft so that's not an option. If there happens to be... I'll be in shock... but see if the threads are reversed against the direction that the pulley turns. If they are, the nut will self tighten as the pump turns. It may work.

Using anything as cheesy as JB Weld is simply stupid... they might as well have told you to try to superglue the pulley on. Neither will last for long... fix it right the first time. Welding is also out. Do that and you cannot use the pump for a core when you get another one. Bottom line? Get another pulley be it new or used. Best wishes!

PS I urge you to continue to succeed in your efforts to leave behind the old life. I know it may be hard... and sometimes it may even seem to be impossible... but the best things in life come when you're free of those chains. Life itself only continues when you're free of them. You know what I mean... declare your independence day and celebrate it heartily. How do I bleed my power steering pump on my 98 Ford Taurus?

I own a 98 Ford Taurus (V6 3.0 single cam) I had my power steering pump changed recently by my gf's father, because the old one was leaking. The car is working but the steering seems to have a little bit more resistance than it should (very mild) and also has a very slight whine that kicks in once in a while. I know that is the indication of a leak but it only happens once in a while. I also checked the fluid and it is brownish and murky, not the way the fluid looked when I added it. I talk to my gf's dad and he said that the power steering pump needs to be bled, but doesn't know how to do it. He said it may just need to be used a while more to get the air pushed out of it. He also said to start the car and crank the wheel back and forth for a bit once in a while. he said that will help prime it. Should I do this? Is the fluid normal? Should the power steering pump be bled? if so, how do I do it? If anyone can answer anything, it would be greatly appreciated. thank you.How do I bleed my power steering pump on my 98 Ford Taurus? The air will work ts way out. Just keep a check on your fluid Laval and it will be fine. How do I bleed my power steering pump on my 98 Ford Taurus?Yep, No bleeding is necessary.

When you wake up tomorrow it will be fine.

All that pumping has churned the fluid into fine micro bubbles.

It will take a while till they dissipate.

If you had the front wheels off the ground prior,

    it would of worked quicker.

CheersHow do I bleed my power steering pump on my 98 Ford Taurus?Disconnect the hose to the fittings on the axle to let gravity push out the air. Then put the hose back and refill the power steering pump. How do I bleed my power steering pump on my 98 Ford Taurus? There is no bleeding. The cap has a breather hole that will allow any trapped air in the system to escape as the pump is working.

You may want to look into flushing the system if the fluid is really bad.How do I bleed my power steering pump on my 98 Ford Taurus?guys are right, microbubbles! I like micro bubbles on new years!

they will bubble up to the top , park in warm garage, cold will have thicker fluid and trap suspended bubbles.

Turn the radio up until then.

  • How to trouble shoot power steering?

I have a 2003 F150 and the power steering just went out. There was no noise, no warning, nothing. I checked the reservoir and there was plenty of fluid and no signs of leaks. I would assume I just need to change the power steering pump, but, I was wondering if there is any other device that would cause this problem, before I commit my Saturday to replacing the pump.......thanks for your answers! How to trouble shoot power steering?Plugged power steering hoses could cause problems. The drive belts have to come off to get to the timing belt, so you just pay for the belts and get them put on for free while the timing belt job gets done.

It's best to keep your hands off your car unless you have a bit of mechanical know how. You should be able to look at the belts and see what needs to be loosened up without looking at pictures, It's pretty basic.

99 Taurus - Changed power steering pump. Growling with not much assist.?

I just bought this car power steering was wonky and leaking so I figured the pump had likely got dry a few times and screwed the pump.

By wonky I mean that the steering seemed to have good assist at times and not good at others. It was kind of come and go.

I put a new pump on and now I am getting very little power assist most of the time. When I am parked in my alley and I turn the wheels back and forth it seems to almost fully assist but the pump is growling most of the way.Fluid level is good. Not sure how long it may take to bleed the system. I turned the wheel fully side to side several times on 3 different occasions. I also took it for a drive and it seemed there was some assist but may have only seemed that way cause the car was moving. Now that I read this it is pretty much the same as before.

I am now assuming it is the steering gear. Not to excited about changing that. Looks like hell. Possibly a clogged line or power steering fluid filter?

Any help, suggestions are greatly appreciated,

  • How difficult is it for an average person, not a seasoned mechanic, to change out the power steering pump?

I have an auto stethoscope and when I listen to the power steering pump on my 2000 Nissan Frontier 4 cylinder truck, its just too loud for my taste. What can I do?(to save $).How difficult is it for an average person, not a seasoned mechanic, to change out the power steering pump?If you are even the slightest bit handy, it is not a big deal to do. The most expensive thing to get is the pump. You can find it for a little over $100 at most auto parts stores. They will also change for a core, usually around $50, which you get back when you bring in your old pump off the truck. When you get the new pump, you can look at it to see exactly where the bolts that hold it on go. That will make it easier to uninstall the old one.

If you go here, there is a diagram of your pump:

    http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairG

In the links to the right on that page, there is also a section that will tell you how to %26quot;bleed%26quot; the air out of the lines after you install the new one. If you still have doubts you can buy a manual for your truck for $10-15. If you get the one made by Haynes, it is geared toward people with little experience, and has plenty of pictures.

Make sure you have basic tools, like a ratchet, extensions, sockets, maybe a swivel, and some open ended wrenches. You need a steth to hear and you want to change it? WFYB It's not hard to do. Good luck. How difficult is it for an average person, not a seasoned mechanic, to change out the power steering pump? You must be old school. I say this because the radio/stereo is usually too loud for most to hear a power steering pump.

I assume the fluid is at the proper level. Did you have to add some at a point? The system could be cavitating and need the air bled out.

If you have to use a stethoscope to hear the noise loudly then don't do that again. If you are not experiencing power steering problems then maybe, to save money, you might just need to turn the radio/stereo up.

How to change a power steering pump on a 2001 chevy malibu?

How do I go about this? How to change a power steering pump on a 2001 chevy malibu?Power steering pumps require one special tool. for you ,you ll need the GM pulley puller $29 at northern or autozone. you cant get the pump out of the bracket without removing the pulley. after you have the right tools its gravy . loosen the belt remove the pulley ,pump. install the new pump ,use the tool to press the pulley back on and reinstall the belt. Now you have to bleed the air out and that can be messy. leave the filler lid off after putting in new fluid and turn the wheel from lock to lock several times. if you didnt let any air in the lines during your repair you should be good to go. Its not as simple as it sounds. Be ready for some cussing . pressure wash your engine and put a large drip pan under the car before you start and at least youve saved some grief . have some fun, if you screw up the worst thing is you tow your car to the shop. If you get it right thats what its all about. How to change a power steering pump on a 2001 chevy malibu?Take a look in a Chiltons Auto Repair manual. Pump is leaking badly. Wife was told a line is rusted out. Quoted $500-600 to fix.How difficult is it to change the power steering pump on a '99 Intrepid with a 2.7L engine?Well if just the line is leaking change it not the pump.

If it is the pump, getting it out is not easy, but you can do it.

Get the pump and you willn notice that it comes without the pully. Depending one if it is held on with just a nut just remove the nut. If you look at it and there is no nut, you will have to get a puller. You can rent one from AUTO-ZONE and have him tell you how to use it . The kit with the puller comes with the puller and thr installer. So it can be don.

Working on these cars with cramped engine bays always sucks pretty bad, but if you have a modest set of tools and are determined, you can do the job yourself. Some advice: Buy a new ps pump, dont try to save a few bucks buying a used one from a junkyard. Be very careful when you are removing the fittings from the old pump and re-installing them on the new pump - dont cross thread anything etc etc.

The job itself is straightforward, remove all fittings and hoses from the old pump. Unbolt the old pump from its mounting brackets. Mount the new pump. Re-attach all the hoses and fittings. Fill with new power steering fluid and then bleed the system. Bleeding the system usually just consists of turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times while making sure the fluid level in the pump remains where its supposed to be (look at the power steering fluid dipstick for reference). This gets any air out of the system.

Have fun, do your work carefully, and enjoy doing this project for less than a hundred bucks. Should take even a beginner less than 90 minutes including prep time.

They break easily! Random aftermarket pulley removal tools are weak and sloppy as they thread inside the power-steering pump shaft. *It would pay you great dividends if you took the old pump with the pulley attached and the new pump to your local Ford Dealership or a private mechanic and let them swap the pulleys. Be careful of the little white, fine teflon high pressure coupling ring.

I learned the hard way on this very vehicle. How do you change a power steering pump in a 1998 mercury sable? You have a new power steering pump, not a rebuilt one from autozone. Ok, I assume you own a suction tool, remove all possible fluid from the pump, remove the pressure and return lines, remove serpentine belt, remove power steering pulley (tool is required), remove bolts holding pump on, install new pump, using tool press pulley back onto your 'new' pump, re-install the serpentine belt, re-install the lines. Jack up the front wheels off the ground, fill the resovoir with fluid, turn steering wheel Slowly back and forth all the way to right, then all the way to left 30 times periodically checking and adding fluid. Then (I assume you own a power steering flush machine or you will void your warranty) hook up the flush machine and flush the entire system. Top off fluid, check for leaks, and you're good to go.How do you change a power steering pump in a 1998 mercury sable?you don't NEED any specific tool, it just makes the job a whole lot easier. If i can change it by myself is there anything i need to be overly cautious about or weary?Chevy Z71 1500... How hard is it to change a power steering pump?If you have the special puller and installer for the pump pulley, its about an hour and a half job. If you dont have the special tools, then you will ruin the pulley and end up having to pay someone to do it anyway.Chevy Z71 1500... Maybe 2, return one if you don't need the 2nd.

Read through all this and make sure you have all the right wrenches and tools. Won't be many.

    Disconnect battery.

    Remove the drive/serpentine belt.

Disconnect power plug to the pump.

Loosen bolts that mount the pump to engine.

Disconnect power steering lines (2 of them. Have rags handy for spillage, newspaper under car for drippage. Keep fluid away from painted surfaces)

Remove bolts the rest of the way and remove pump.

    Install is the reverse.

    Now top off reservoir.

    Start vehicle.

Turn wheels completely back and forth to circulate steering fluid.

    Top off reservoir between turns.

Do this several times until the fluid level is stable.

Clean any spillage thoroughly. It will eat paint and corrode other surfaces.

    Done!

Easy job and will save you tons in labor charges to do it yourself.

Honda odyssey 2002: how difficult to change power steering pump belt?

My Odyssey needs a new power steering pump belt. There is a motor mount in the center of the transverse v6 and this belt goes right around it - so it looks like replacing this belt requires lifting the motor to get the belt around this mount, is that right?

Anyone with an estimate to do the work?Honda odyssey 2002: how difficult to change power steering pump belt?Depends were u go. I have seen from .5 to 2.0 hours of labor. I think 1.0 is good. You have to loose the p/s pump and remove that engine mount u don't need to lift the engine. removed the other belt for a/c and alternator don't remove any bolts for this one just release pressure from tensioner. replace p/s belt and reinstalled everything the same way it was. Good luck!
