Unlocateable Clicking from engine area?

I was changing the belts on my 1990 Pontiac Grand Am, the main pully sets behind the right fron tire, so i had to take off the tire and the plastic guard in wheel well. After getting all the new belts on and in place, I went to re-mount the tire, and the jack sliped out from where it had been at, and the car fell about 1/2 inch from my leg and hand. Ok first thing is first, go ahead call me an idiot, it was my fault, bad placing and should have used jack stands, I deserve it, feel free to call me whatever you want. Now, after I put it all back together I started it and went to drive it a bit to see how bad I messed it up. The car runs fine, no pulling, no obvious signs of internal engine damage, but the only thing is, there is a clicking noise comming from right around the power steering pump (FYI PS pump set on pass. side cloer to firewall) The clicking is reletive to engine speed, I have looked for eveything I can think of, need ideas and thoughts, please help if you have any input.Unlocateable Clicking from engine area?dont feel badly. i did this too. ok so we are both idiots. lol. i bent a thin metal plate on the wheel hub. look around wheel/rotor and see if u did same. good luck.Unlocateable Clicking from engine area?easy to fix, jack it back up pull the tire off , an be hine the hub you see a dust cover, made of tin,, find where it touching the hub, pull it out away from the hub, ,,,you ready to go

Motor swap?

hey all!

i've gotta 2002 camaro, currently with an l36. i'd like to swap in an l67, but am having a lot of trouble finding info regarding this. it just doesn't seem like anyone else has done it yet. information is very limited, but i'm hoping to change that. here's what i know so far...if you have any suggestions/comments, or disagree with something, please say so:)

1) l36 %26amp; l67 blocks are essentially the same...the same engine mounts can be used, and the engine can bolt up to my bellhousing.

2) hood clearance for the SC isn't an issue with 98+ camaros.

3) some components (ie power steering pump) are in different locations, but that shouldn't be a problem

the only two issues i've got left are:

1) will i have to move the firewall to allow space for the intake???? if so, how much? i don't have any problems with moving the firewall, it's just a %26quot;do i have to?%26quot; question.

2) the computer. i'll need to use the l67 computer obviously, but i doubt that computer will be compatible withMotor swap?Easy way would be to hunt around the damaged vehicle auctions for a write off, then swap all the %26quot;goodies%26quot; over. In all honesty it'd probably end up costing you the same in the long term. But as the 02 on Camaro is more or less the same as the Commodores and Monaros (read ponty gto) that we have here in Aus. Just go and bolt the damn thing in with its %26quot;brain%26quot;. Turn the key and enjoy.

Will holes in exhaust system cause car to stall?

Ok, long story short I took my car into the mechanic in July of this year cause of a few issues I was having (I have a 98 Ford Taurus by the way with about 73,000 miles on it). The guy told me I had a problem with the Power Steering system, power steering pump and the rack %26amp; Pinon's were going bad. Now the second problem was 2 holes in my exhaust system. The first problem with the steering I got fixed and it cost me 1400. The holes he said would cost 750.

Now I got laid off from my job in January of this year and I couldn't swing the 750. I've had a couple of job interviews, in fact one just this past week but the long and short of it is I'm broke and still unemployed and the money I get from unemployment isn't enough to hep with this.

Just yesterday I get in my car and it takes a while to get i started and it almost seems like its about to stall, I hit the gas and manage to make it home without any problems BUT it got me to thinking about those two holes...

Can those holes cause my car to stall or stop? The mechanic said I could safely drive it around for 6 months to a year. that was six months ago but I should point out since I'm not working my trips in the car pretty much consist of 5 minute drives to the grocery store or a 30 minute trip twice a week to college classes. So VERY limited driving but with winter coming up I'm still scared of getting stuck in the snow (I live in chicago).

Can anyone knowledgeable answer this for me, given the fact that I drive pretty infrequently how long would you guess I could keep going with these holes? (I haven't had a battery change in a few years, I'm really hoping that's why it seemed to start so sluggishly and also why it's been taking a little while longer to start it in general lately. It would be a much cheaper solution).

Thanks in advance for your help and if you need anymore info let me know. I'm already going to take it in somewhere and get the battery tested but I'm still worried about those damn holes. Will holes in exhaust system cause car to stall?A knowledgeable answer you asked for, so ill do my best.

A sluggish start at the beginning can be a battery, possibly having a battery cell going dead. It could also be a starter going bad, but i would check the battery first before going towards checking the starter.

The holes in the exhaust wont cause a vehicle to stall, it may cause an engine light depending where the holes are, such as in front of an oxygen sensor.

If the holes arent very big, there is a simple $6 fix, and that is liquid exhaust sealer, you can go to any part store and ask for it. All it is, is a high temperature sealer that you rub over the holes till it covers them, and you give it 10 minutes to dry, then drive your vehicle at liesure and the sealer will harden.

Something else to check is on your battery, observe the terminals. Does your battery have terminals coming out of the side? or on the top?

If they come out of the side, its a good idea to get whoever checks your battery, to disconnect the cables and run some battery cleaner or baking soda with water over them. Side mounted terminals on a battery are notorious at getting corrosion, they are also known for loosening.

So if they are side mounted, just grab ahold of %26quot;one%26quot; terminal at a time, and try to give it a jiggle, if it doesnt budge its fine.

If you see any white foam on the terminals of your battery, use some battery cleaner, or some baking soda and water mixed, to get rid of the corrosion. You can run a brass brush over them too, try not to get any of the white powder (if any) on you, because it eats through clothing.

Do you notice when you start your vehicle if you turn a dome light on, that it gets noticeable dim when you turn your key?

I think what you are explaining is a battery issue more than it is anything else.

Whats probably happening is your battery has a weak cell, and when it sits it looses some charge, it has enough juice to start the vehicle and at that point, your alternator continues charging it. Make sure to have whoever checks your battery to check the charging of the alternator too, should be charging anywhere between 13-15.

Hope this helps, email me if you have any more questions.

Question about 1997 Ford Ranger?

My driver's front tire makes a squealing noise as I drive or make any left turns. If I turn the wheel to the right, it makes no noise. I changed the inner and outer bearings plus put on a new caliper. Nothing seems to get rid of the noise. I put on a new serpentine belt plus the power steering pump is brand new. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how I can fix the noise. It's annoying and I can't take it anymore. HELP?Question about 1997 Ford Ranger?I know it might sound dumb but did you check if the tire is rubbing against the plastic guard??Question about 1997 Ford Ranger?I'm thinking along the lines of an alignment issue. Maybe too much toe-out on the drivers side. The more the toe is out, then the more your dragging the tire down the road. If you turn the wheel to the right then you are straightening out the tire therefore it is not dragging. Just an educated guess.Question about 1997 Ford Ranger?I agree with the alignment as your problem. Though I would lean towards camber....either way, get the front end checked.Question about 1997 Ford Ranger?do you have hub caps or rims?

Escort Van ~ placing a Turbo engine into a non-turbo?

3. The gearbox out of the car is stronger and the shafts are from a mondeo as appose to the van having its own shafts

4. the speedo in the van is electric ( the car has a speedo cable)

5.the power steering pump is in a differant place on both

6.there are two wires coming out of the third injector on the escort td and not on the non turbo

could the aircon go??

i am also going to put the electric windows in and central locking

1994 oldsmobile, will im make it to fl and back?

Hello, i want ur opinion on my cituation. I want to go to florida, and the car i have is a 1994 oldsmobile delta 88 lss with 248,000 miles on it. its currently running strong, starts up like a car with 30,000 miles on it. I do an oil change every 2,500 miles. In addition i have replaced the power steering pump, oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, fuel filter, air filter, main serpentine belt, spark plug wires, spark plugs, new tires all within the last 5,000 miles, and i regularly jack the car up and inspect and repair rust, and check for leaking. I check the fluids 3 times a week. Do you believe that i do enough preventative maintence to ensure that it will run well/ last a long time? i have confidence in the car to make the 2500 mile journey to florida, but im wondering how someone would look at this from a diffrent prespective, possibly another mechanic. Thank you in advance!1994 oldsmobile, will im make it to fl and back?mm sounds like you do more than enough to keep you car in good condition ..continue doing so and the car will last longer as of going to fl.. then go for it but when stoping for gas check everything over oil, breakes, tranny fluid, everything you check on your car and drive easy and safe and you will be ok

friend drove his truck with almost 400,000 miles to alabama from northcarolina and back and had no problems

\have a safe trip1994 oldsmobile, will im make it to fl and back?it should make it but also you might want to look at your head and intake gaskets as well they are known to leak on those engines no matter what you do. if your oil looks kinda like choclate milk or has a brown texture to it then it is leakin somewhere. another thing check your serp. belt. if it is cracked every 2 inches replace it and if not do yourself a favor either carry a spare with you or believe it or not carry a pair of nylons with you. the nylons will make it to a shop or gas station. also carry the tool that you would need to relieve tension on the tensioner pulley. but other than that you should make it ok. take other preventative things with you in case of an emergency. such as a full size spare tire. tire inflator or air compressor. jumper cables, a couple of snack bars high in protein. flash light and a screwdriver set phillips and regular.1994 oldsmobile, will im make it to fl and back?okay i thought of going to a far away place too in my 1996 bmw after i fix it but what i figured is just go at night when there isnt as much heat or stress on your car and i personally think it will do fine if you have faith and your a mechanic you should be ok idk tho but i am a very smart college student lol.

    2000 Ford Ranger?

my husband has a 2000 Ford Ranger. He needs to know how to bleed the rack and pinion or how to change the fluid in the rack and pinion and the power steering pump.2000 Ford Ranger? You can only drain it out your self , However take it to your nearest Mechanic and they will flush it and replace the fluid, You see it is hard to do at home without the right equipment . It won,t take them long and not that expensive, good luck2000 Ford Ranger?I agree on taking it somewheres to change out the fluid as drainign it yourself, you have a habit of adding air to the system and causing more headaches.

to bleed, turn steering wheel back and forth with the front of the truck in the air.. do this for a few minutes and then drop the truck and check for feel.. if whining noise and/or hard steering, you must do it again...

Sometimes it requires a special tool and a vaccum pump to accurately do the job .. but most bleed out this way...

AND MAKE SURE YOU USE MERCON OR MERCON V IN THE POWER STEERING!!!!! Most use power steering fluid which is too light for the ford power steering and can cause leaks

    99 cherokee serp. belt?

I need to change the sepentine belt on my 99 cherokee. The diagram points to a pully just below the power steering pump as belt removal. Is this the tensioner? And how do i use it to remove and replace the belt. Thanks!99 cherokee serp. belt? You need to loosen the bolt on the front of the pulley a couple turns (locks the pulley in place) and then there should be a bolt just above and behind it that provides for tension. Draw the routing out on a piece of paper if its not shown under the hood somewhere. Sometimes its not obvious how the routing should be. The new belt will be quite a bit tighter than the old so you may need to loosen the tensioning bolt more to accommodate the new.99 cherokee serp. belt?Yes, loosen that pulley its right below the power steering pump99 cherokee serp. belt?I use the Mechanic.....

I grab it by the neck ,squeeze and twist99 cherokee serp. belt? That is correct. I have a 01 Cherokee and that sounds right.99 cherokee serp. belt?If I remember correctly you will need a 5/8%26quot; socket change your belt. The only thing you need to turn is the bolt on top of the pulley bracket, this will cause the pulley to raise (tighten) or lower (loosen).

You do not loosen the bolt in the center of the pulley it is independent of the tensioner and will not help in anyway.

    Still whining power steering...?

Sor for the new post for those that answered...didn't know how to update without closing the thread. Thanks all for your inputs and answers, just wanted to leave an update.

I, again, checked the fluid level and bled it, checked for leaks and found nothing wrong. I also checked the belt for any wear/cracks/ or if it was tight enough/too tight. Everything seems fine.

I remeber though, about a day or so before it started whining, we heard clicking noises when we went up steep hills...I thought that might just be bad gas and was pinging. But now, even at idle, the pump sounds like it is knocking/clicking with a slight whine (almost like a blown engine----root blower). I'd hate to change belts only to find out it's not the problem...especially since it is a pain in the 3.0L engines. Yet I'd also hate to take it to a mechanic to have them tell me something I already might have guessed and pay them for it :(Still whining power steering...?your power steering pump is going out.Still whining power steering...?See your first answer. I'd agree with him! Your pump may be shot!Still whining power steering...?the other answers are right! you are hearing the bearings in the pump wearing out. nothing to do now except replace the pump and also make sure that your belt isn,t too tight, that can knock out the bearings very quickly.Still whining power steering...?Of course it is very hard to diagnose a car without seeing it and listening to it, but I do have this point to offer. You mention that the whining increased when going up hill, but unless you were turning while going up hill the act of climbing a hill would add no additional strain to a power steering pump.

Does Mazda use universal or Original parts when replacing? I was told mechanics uses rebuilt parts. At first, the alternator was changed, This makes the second one they replace... How can I get my steering wheel straight on my truck?

    It's a 1995 Silverado Z71(4x4) 1500 with a 5.7 and power steering withOUT the hydro pump assist.

Okay, when I got the truck the steering wheel was out of line by about a half a turn to the right. I figured it had been in a wreck and the air bag had been deployed so the steering wheel had been put on wrong. Well, my power steering gear box had been leaking and I just got the money so I got the rebuild kit for it and when I got it out I noticed that the housing on the steering box had been absolutely mutilated.

What I think is that whoever had the truck before I did changed the pitman arm but they did it without pulling the steering box and beat the pitman arm off with a screwdriver and a hammer. *shakes head* I was going to replace the pitman arm anyway and since I have to 'change' the steering box assembly I have no way of knowing how the pitman arm is supposed to go back on there to keep the steering wheel straight. Anyone have any experience with this? How can I get my steering wheel straight on my truck?Finnish all your lower repairs, when every thing is right and tight drive your truck perfectly straight into your work area, then pull the steering wheel from the column. One big nut holds it on, you will need a puller (there cheap) line up the splines were you want it and tighten it back up...How can I get my steering wheel straight on my truck?the Pitman arm only goes on at the most 4 ways

you adjust the tie rods to center the wheel

    you can do it yourself:

    on a level floor:

first center the wheel, then center the tires straight ahead

then adjust the tie rods (same on both sides) until the str. wh. is straight

tighten everything you loosened, readjust if necessary, it's hard to get it perfect the first time

good luck! How can I get my steering wheel straight on my truck?Your best bet is to have a good front end shop do an alignment and tell them what you suspect, then let them straighten it all out.How can I get my steering wheel straight on my truck? The pitman arm I changed had a keyed spline, so it would only go on one of two ways, and one was definitely wrong.

How much play might a power steering pump pulley have?

    JEEP YJ 4.2 -1988 - ENGINE question?

I just got almost for free Jeep 1988 4.2 . Did not run . I started changed fluids , oil etc , and engine is knocking like woodpicker .

To me soung like broken lifter ( my friends have same opinion ).

I know I shoud change camshaft and lifters . My question is -

-do I need remove engine head to do this job?

-maybe better idea is to buy another engine from junk-yard instal , use for while and in same time rebiuld this knocking ? -Any idea how much cost used complite engine -some links?

-how about remanufactired engines -avaliable on line for about $1400 ? -Are they OK -is it good price ?

I never had Jeep before , I like this vehicycle a lot , I would brigh this vehicycle to life again .

I know how to do most job , I just need good advices .

I will be happy if someone will give me some links about problem above , some advices .

How much will cost me to buy all parts needed to rebiuld engine by myself ?

Another problem with Jeep. I have automatic transmition -is OK-but when I stop on red light many times engine dies . Normal RPM is about 600 as should be . I did not do tune-up yet . Maybe is needed .

What is your opinion about this problem ?

Maybe I need change fuel pump ? Or maybe is some adjustment on this pump ?

And last question , power stering . When engine is warm , power steering does not work as good as when is cold . Is there some adjastment on power steering pump ?

Any help is needed . Thank you .JEEP YJ 4.2 -1988 - ENGINE question?Sounds to me like you might have a cracked flex-plate which can simulate the exact same noise as a lower engine knock. This could also be causing you transmission problem i would remove the inspection cover on the transmission bell housing spiflex-platexplate around and check for any cracks. On the power steering issue sounds like the fluid is reaching its boiling point after it warms up which it could be contaminated with water or something since it hasent been running. I would recommend draining the fluid and refilling it and also add some lucas power steering fluid and see what happens.JEEP YJ 4.2 -1988 - ENGINE question?Hi

For your power steering, any adjustment would be on the steering box

And I think your rpm`s should be up to about 850. For the knock, put in two qt/liter of transition fluid in the oil. (Take out about 2 qt) It is

mostly detergent and may clean the lifters. Its worth a try ! And leave

it in for a few days.

    1987 Toyota Celica GT?

I'm looking for my first car, and I found a 1987 Toyota Celica GT 5 speed for $700 OBO.

The body is in pretty good shape, but the owner says it needs a tune up, oil change, and possibly a power steering pump.

    It also has no radio.

I Woudnt buy something from the 80's. Also, because of all the repairs it needs.

Do you know the buyer? He could just be selling it to you to get it off his hands and it dosent work and is mice infested.1987 Toyota Celica GT?you should offer about 300 dollars because you are looking at at least 600 dollars in repairs.

its not a good deal.1987 Toyota Celica GT?650$ and the repairs will cost about 120$1987 Toyota Celica GT?Make certain the headlight doors open. Make sure it drives straight, doesn't overheat, and that there's no clicking sound when turning.

The 3S-FE is a pretty dayum reliable engine. If it's not belching smoke and all the above stuff works, $700 is an okay price. I'd offer $500 but have the extra 2 $100 bills in my pocket in case he refuses.

How urgent is replacing my brake pads at 15%? I have a 2002 Subaru Forrester. Where do you recommend I go?

My local Subaru dealer, upon doing my oil change (I'm at 72,000 miles) recommends 1,500 worth of repair including replacing the brake pads (I believe it), the power steering pump and the starter. I want a second opinion. I'm in Seattle/Lynnwood. Money is tight but I do want to be safe. How urgent is replacing my brake pads at 15%? I have a 2002 Subaru Forrester. Where do you recommend I go?If money is tight, this is what I would recommend. Front brake pad are fairly easy to replace. If your not comfortable doing something like this, maybe a friend or relative could help. New pads only cost around $40 and its a 30 min job. Or take it to a local garage that has a good reputation. The dealer is usually the most expensive. What did they say about the power steering pump, is it just leaking a little? Try some stop leak first if that's the case. In most cases the pump will make a lot of noise before it goes out. Have an independent garage check it out first.

The starter will not be a safety issue. If it goes out you won't be able to start you car. Also a good independent garage could put in a rebuilt starter and save you some money. How urgent is replacing my brake pads at 15%? I have a 2002 Subaru Forrester. Where do you recommend I go?Well, here, lets put it in a really easy to understand situation.

You like stopping your vehicle. It keeps you safe and alive.

Currently, your stopping ability, the ability that stops you from dying, or killing others, is down to only 15%.

Now, given that, do you really want to just put off the repairs? Is it urgent? I would think, for any logical person, that there's no question about it. Go get it fixed.

1977 Ford F150 starting problems.. And other Misc. questions?

We have had this truck for a little over 2 years. Not driven it much... But have changed out the fuel tank for a brand new one, replaced the radiator with a better one (not new, but used) and have now just changed the power steering pump yesterday.

My husband isn't really mechanically inclined when it comes to his truck yet.. but he's willing to learn! We got a chiltons manual (if thats how its spelled...) but he has lost it this last year.

We have been having 1 new problem with the truck that we've never had before.. It has ALWAYS started up on a dime. Easily.. no problems.

My husband recently drove it home about 80 miles the other day with it overheating every 20 minutes or so... (powersteering pump was out, so the belt wasn't attached to the fan to cool the engine/radiator) It got home fine..

Now when he went and installed the powersteering pump, it wouldn't start. It turned and turned, but wouldn't fire. The spark plugs were changed out 2 years ago..

We got it going by bypassing the solenoid... (he also tried charging the battery at the same time by jumping it with our van, so now I'm confused as to what made it start...)

We hot wired it, basically and got it started.

Let it run for about 20 minutes, and it was just fine! Drove it around the block no problem.

BUT- after her turned it off, I told him to try to start it up with the key again.... and it started right up without the bypassing of the solenoid...WTF?

Do you think the solenoid is going out..?? I told him he shouldnt have tried jumping the truck battery AND bypass the solenoid starting at the same time... because now we don't know if it was the battery, or the solenoid.

ANY OPINIONS!??? We don't have any additional money to bring the thing into the shop right now, and would like to do any fixing on our own.

OH YEAH.. and the wiring is crapily done. It could be something with that as well.. Im really not sure where HALF of the wires go in this thing. It's so badly done..1977 Ford F150 starting problems.. And other Misc. questions? My assumption from afar is the battery was low.

If the truck starts easily, measure the voltage across the battery when you crank it and when it starts. The cranking volts should be higher than 9 volts and the running volts should be higher than 13.5 volts.

If it isn't starting very well or at all with the key, but does bypassing the solenoid, the small wire on the solenoid should have battery voltage when the key is in the start position. If it does, solenoid is probably bad.1977 Ford F150 starting problems.. And other Misc. questions?Connected to your starter solinoid, on the passenger side inner fender is a small black wire, that has a lumo on it (fusable link) This wire under the lump can be and probably is corroded. change this wire, will probably fix the problem.1977 Ford F150 starting problems.. And other Misc. questions?you need to throw the chiltons manual in the garbage, get either a motors or haynes.

    then replace the battery.

for the wiring, go to alldata.com1977 Ford F150 starting problems.. And other Misc. questions?this is easy clean your battery cables and your solenoid connections that should do it but just make sure you put everything back on the way it came dirty connections cause alot of resistance so cleaning them should do it

    2 Automotive Questions?

I have 2 Questions- Number one is what would be a likely cause of a slow oil leak? about once every week and a half or 2 weeks i have to put a quart in, or the engine starts knocking. I was thinking it could be the valve cover gasket, but i just wanted a second opinion

Number two- How difficult is it to replace a power steering pump and reservoir? The car is an 89 Grand prix. I have a fair amount of automotive ability, but i don't claim to be an expert by any means. I feel like i should be capable of changing the power steering pump, because i can't imagine that there's a whole lot too it, But i just want to make sure of what im getting into before i start ripping parts off of my car haha. So if someone can please tell me what all is involved in power steering pump replacement, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! 2 Automotive Questions?Question 1. depending on which engine you have it could be the valve cover/covers gaskets or the intake on the 3.1 engine which is very common.

Question 2. Same as before it depends on the engine size but both are not that hard to change out but you will need a power steering pump pulley remover, the installer comes with the rebuilt pump.

    Automotive help please?

  • I just found out my 95 LHS Chrysler, the body is rusted to H E double hockey sticks, what to do?

I took my LHS 95 to change the broken trailing arm and power steering pump only to see on the lift the body is rusted more than I thought. The guy told me the bolts, if they break, the frame would be destroyed.

Out of curiousity, how much would that cost to replace?? Should I just cut my loss and start saving for a different car?I just found out my 95 LHS Chrysler, the body is rusted to H E double hockey sticks, what to do?Start saving for a new car. I bought a few cars from MN. because they where cheaper then found out why. Plan on changing the car. Sorry.I just found out my 95 LHS Chrysler, the body is rusted to H E double hockey sticks, what to do?Yeppie, it is 15 years old. Way past its prime.Hopefully it will last long enough for you to get some down payment money saved up.

Ok car question. When I accelerate the car is pulling against me?

and it kind of rocks back and forth. It takes a bit of time to get to a higher speed and yesterday I was almost hit due to it.

My husband says something is in the gas tank but it was doing this well before the last tank of gas only now it is a lot worse!

I also, despite my husbands thoughts, know the slave cylinder is going out and the power steering pump needs to be replaced.

How hard is this to do. I'm not alloweed a new car and I'm quite ticked off because we do not have the money to put this piece of **** kia in the shop.

So can anyone tell me what can cause the car to pull against me and have issues with acceleration?

And how hard it is to change the power steering pump and the slave cylinder?

Yes he bought me this piece of **** when my mazada was totaled. It cost us a big 1200 and he spent some of the money on windows and inserts he inisted he could sell on line and get double our money back but not one has sold in 6 months! and to make it more fun I have 161 windows sitting on the property and we are now out the money.

Anyone care to kick him for me?

Thank you!Ok car question. When I accelerate the car is pulling against me?I commend you for calling your Kia a POS Kia. I admire that yu are not afraid of the truth, instead of delusional about Korean cars being the best vehicles in the world and such..........

As for what is going on with the car, your Transmission may be dying. Maybe stuck in a gear?

The rocking back and forth is interesting. If you mean front-to-back back and forth, it may be bucking, and be the transmisison refusing to shift in any type of reasonable, driveable way.

Check the fluid on that. It may be so thirsty, it will drink up a whole quart.

Some transmissions do just let excess fluid run out instead of causing an overfilled condition. Overfilling a transmission is bad, but not as bad as not having enough fluid. Oddly enough, overfilling will also cause your transmission to not work right. Be cautious, add a quarter quart at a time... this way you avoid that.Ok car question. When I accelerate the car is pulling against me?tell him to sell car online and get double your money !now for your problems slave cylinder is in the trans require removal of engine and no repetuable shop is gonna wanna do this job without replacing the clutch cost $400-$1200 depending where you live power steering pump another pump $35-$300 depending where you live if its new or used and kinda a pain to change you have my sympathy if your mechanically inclined you could change these items i would suggest you go to the autozone web page and look under repair info to get a better idea since you know what you or your husband is capable of good luckOk car question. When I accelerate the car is pulling against me?I'd love to do more than just kick him for you. And not being allowed to buy another vehicle???

Sounds like you transmission is going out. You can have it rebuilt or try getting another. It may cost as much as the car itself. Changing a power steering pump is easy. Just can be a little messy for a rookie. Best of luck to you!Ok car question. When I accelerate the car is pulling against me?does your power steering work at all? I would guess the other answers on here are incorrect in saying it's the transmission because they are all assuming it's automatic. you said your slave is bad so it must be a standard shift right? well anyway my thought is under hard acceleration a front wheel drive car will try and pull the wheel out of your hands it's called torque steer. thats normal but if your power steering is out that will amplify the problem because you don't have the mechanical assist from the pump any more. so if you mash the gas the wheel will want to pull out of your hand and it will be very difficult to pull it back strait.

as for how to replace it. it's not real hard but it isn't feasible for me to type it all out here so what I would suggest is go to the auto parts store and buy a $15 hanse manual for your car and that will have easy to follow step by step instructionsOk car question. When I accelerate the car is pulling against me?Did your husband raise the life insurance policy coverage on you recently?

You sound like a high risk and with your %26quot;he won't let me attitude%26quot; probably not much fun to live with either.

Get a job and buy your own ride.Ok car question. When I accelerate the car is pulling against me?you say it,s hard picking up speed? maybe the cat. converter is clogging up or it needs a complete tune-up. those cars are cheap made from day 1. it very well could be the transmission getting ready to go out.

My truck is making a screeching noise when i turn?

It just started, i heard its the power steering pump. Anyone know how to change that?...and if it will hurt anything if i don't change it for a little bit?...its a 99 ford ranger 6cl 2wd.My truck is making a screeching noise when i turn?it should be ok for a little while but check the fluid level you might just be lowMy truck is making a screeching noise when i turn?it could be the pump, or you could have bad balljoints or bushings in you front end. like the first answer said, check the fluid level first, if it continues, check for power steering fluid in your driveway. if so, the pump's bad. if the pump doesn't leak and it keeps squeeking, try spraying wd40 on the steering bushings/balljoints. if the screeching stops, it was them, and they need replaced immediately, for safety reasons. My truck is making a screeching noise when i turn?Is your power steering unit leaking, check to see if there is any fluid in the reservoir, if no fluid is found add, start motor and turn steering from the left to the right several times till noise quits, if unit is bad, I would replace it as soon as possible. My truck is making a screeching noise when i turn?Turn off your engine and check the power fluid level and wiggle the power steering belt. The noise could be either a loose belt or low fluid. My truck is making a screeching noise when i turn?yes it is the pump check the fluid levelMy truck is making a screeching noise when i turn?check your aux belts..may just need tightening or replacing...

    How hard is it?

to change the power steering pump in my 88 s-10. there is a massive leak. were else could the problem be?How hard is it?One of the hoses may have cracked/split/burst, the sector shaft seal may be leaking (it's the one in the bottom of the steering gearbox). That's about all there is in a power steering system. Make sure the pump is the problem. On most vehicles, the pump isn't hard to remove, it's the pully that is a bear to change. A special tool is usually required. Parts house may rent them. How hard is it?Pump or lines to it could be leaking. If you can change a water pump you can change this, but first you must locate the leak. How hard is it?Hoses -

Check all the hoses - wash off the engine bay, run it and have a friend turn the wheel slow so you can see where it is leaking from.

Hoses are a lot easier to swap out.

But if it is the pump it should not be that bad of a task. How hard is it?not to hard...get the shop manual from advance or other ....best 15 dollars u can spend........that being said most leaks are bad hoses...very high pressure....[ i did have a PS pump reservoir crack in my 1984 s 10]How hard is it?Not sure how hard it would be, but you can check all your lines. If you have a section of rubber tubing then your best bet is to replace it and put two hose clamps on each end if it is a return line. If it's a high pressure line you probably have to buy a line that is fitted for it.How hard is it?It's not that difficult, assuming you have some automotive, or mechanical aptitude! If you've never worked on the truck before, go get a Chilton's, (thats what the main book was called when I did my own work), or other repair manual and follow directions! How hard is it?could be pump, lines or gear box.

What is the most u would pay for this car?

okay so i have a 98 eclipse gs... i am gona post info about it and i want u guys to tell me wat is the most u would pay for this car.. lol please help

ok so its a 98 eclipse gs 4cyliner 2.0 liter.. but the engine has a hole in it and spits out all da oil so the car is not drivable unless engine is swapped. recently to this car i had changed to transmission along with clutch and flywheel which cost 1300. changed the brakes and rotors 200 bucks, changed power steering pump along with a tensioner pulley and cam shaft pulley. i have a 3 inch exhaust on it. a 100 dollar air intake new batter, its fully loaded, leather moonroof, everything power but the driver window wont open(off track had it done but fell again) the car rann greatt but then the engine suddenly got a hole in it and it sucks.. lol it would work perfect with a new engine.. also it has a body kit but the front is broken and needs replacement and back bumper needs allignment.. so if u were gona buy how much would u pay? thanksWhat is the most u would pay for this car?First I realy don't think the GS had a 2.0ltr. Only the GS-T and the GSX. The other models had a slightly bigger chrysler motor in it. At least that is what I thought. Second. you will not get much for it so I would register on a Eclipse forum and part out the car. People need lots of little things you have there and I think you will make more a little at a time. What is the most u would pay for this car?Pull it to the nearest metal recycler...they'll pay you more than I would charge you to tow it off your lot. What is the most u would pay for this car?it would only be worth about 200What is the most u would pay for this car?Well in the area I live on a car like that is considered a junk, or parts car. Local scrappers give $50 for something like that.

  • How do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?

For example how do i adjust the alternator and power steering pump on the engine to place a drive belt on it?How do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?i have my mechanic do that and i pay him with the money get from selling thingsHow do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?It a simple job. All the pulleys are on swivel or pivot bolts. You loosen them and your belts will gain enough slack to take them off. Go to www.twinturbo.net or www.300zxclub. com...These sites are dedicated z folks. They have tons of forums and faq sections. They even a illustrations on how to do a lot of jobs. I have a 91 TT, and I usually go there to get my answers or tech help. How do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?You'll need a socket wrench with some sockets. American cars use inch system, Euros use metrics. Unsure on Japanese. Anyhow, on the pump, start loosening the mounting bolts until you hit one where you can move the pump. Move it in, and there'll be a lot less tension on the belt.

It's pretty easy, i would save the pain in the azz stuff for the mechanics, this one is do-able.

How do I change the belts on a 2002 Toyota Sienna V6?

I was expecting to find a single serpentine belt with an automatic tensioner pulley. I have changed serpentine belts on many models with no problem. But this Sienna has two belts, not one. One belt drives the power steering pump. The second belt drives the alternator and A/C. I don't see a tensioner pulley on either belt. Do these belts work like old-fashioned V-belts belts where you tension them by loosening something (like the alternator) and then using a pry bar to tighten the belt? I can barely see the power steering pump so it looks pretty tight, I welcome advice from anybody who knows this model. Thanks. How do I change the belts on a 2002 Toyota Sienna V6?loosen the 14mm bolt on top of alternator. loosen 12mm bolt below alternator sitting sideways. adjust belt tension with 10mm bolt running through previous 12mm.

loosen 12mm bolt on top of power steering pump. underneath vehicle loosen a 12mm bolt below p/s pump pull on belt to relieve tension, and pry carefully to increase tension.

a bit of advice when reinstalling belts, the belt tension has to be just so, too tight and you will wreck the bearings in both pump and alt., too loose and the belts will squeal they have to be just right.

What causes power steering pump to go bad?

Does it fail like any other part, or can the driver increase the liklihood of it failing?

My mom's backyard mechanic/boyfriend got a hold to my keys and claimed he was seeing if my transmission was going bad (which im sure it is bcuz my car changes gears weirdly) and he came back bragging about how he was doing 90 mph going around a curve...so therefore the transmission cant be going bad. {Idiot I know} So anyway the next day I drive my car a few miles and bam no power steering! How do I/Can I change the power steering belt in my Cabrio?

I have a '97 VW Cabrio that screams like I'm killing its children everytime I turn (although it seems like it's only when I try to turn when I'm going uphill...). The guy I bought the car from says it's the power steering belt. Other people (not professionals) who hear it tell me power steering fluid, but the one person that looked under the hood admitted that the fluid was full. I doubt its the pump (cause I don't feel like paying that much to replace it). Is it the belt? Maybe the fluid needs flushing? My dodge caravan has a problem with the power steering?

we have had the rack and pinion check some say it is ok and others say it needs to be changed. How do I know if the whining when we turn the steering wheel is not from the power steering pump? We have taken it to about five different mechanics. what can i do to make sure we dont replace something that does not need repair? My dodge caravan has a problem with the power steering?if you have already replaced the pump and it still does this then you know its bad,one true way to test it is cut the wheels all the way and see if it has a tight spot in it when you turn the wheels, also when your driving it you,ll notice a slight pulling from it or when you go in to a turn it wont come back strait by its self, that's good way to find out, you,ll probably have to replace the pump to rule it out, good luck.EDIT you can try flushing it out but adding anything to it isn't really going to fix the problem,it may prolong it but not repair it,get another opinion from another shop and see what they say about it,good luck.My dodge caravan has a problem with the power steering? If you have a leak and the fluid keeps running low you maybe getting air in the system, causing the whine noise. Rough cost of replacing power steering pump STS 99?

Does anyone know how much it costs to replace a power steering pump in my 99 or 98 Cadillac STS. cant remember which year. Im pretty positive the pumps out, because the wheel is very difficult to steer with. I noticed today that it started making the low fluid whining sound when turning. Really I want to know rough labor costs. A mechanic told me roughly 1,000. I find that to be rediculous because the parts add up to about 100. I just dont know how much work goes into changing it on a Cadillac. anyone with experience please help. Im not sure if it would require an engine lift or anything like that. That would be awesome if I could just do it in my garage with regular tools, but I doubt it.

thanks a lot in advanced everyone,

JoshRough cost of replacing power steering pump STS 99?Have you tried looking under the car for leaks. Sometimes it is a simple thing like to tighten a clamp on a hose from the pump to the rack %26amp; pinion. What I would do is fill the pump with oil jack up the front of the car start the motor turn your steering wheel left to right lock to lock 4 or 5 times then have a look under the car to see if you can see the oil leak there has to be a leak somewhere. Have a go you have nothing to loose.Rough cost of replacing power steering pump STS 99?It sounds more like the steering rack is the problem. That will cost around $1000 dollars and up.
