How hard is it?

to change the power steering pump in my 88 s-10. there is a massive leak. were else could the problem be?How hard is it?One of the hoses may have cracked/split/burst, the sector shaft seal may be leaking (it's the one in the bottom of the steering gearbox). That's about all there is in a power steering system. Make sure the pump is the problem. On most vehicles, the pump isn't hard to remove, it's the pully that is a bear to change. A special tool is usually required. Parts house may rent them. How hard is it?Pump or lines to it could be leaking. If you can change a water pump you can change this, but first you must locate the leak. How hard is it?Hoses -

Check all the hoses - wash off the engine bay, run it and have a friend turn the wheel slow so you can see where it is leaking from.

Hoses are a lot easier to swap out.

But if it is the pump it should not be that bad of a task. How hard is it?not to hard...get the shop manual from advance or other ....best 15 dollars u can spend........that being said most leaks are bad hoses...very high pressure....[ i did have a PS pump reservoir crack in my 1984 s 10]How hard is it?Not sure how hard it would be, but you can check all your lines. If you have a section of rubber tubing then your best bet is to replace it and put two hose clamps on each end if it is a return line. If it's a high pressure line you probably have to buy a line that is fitted for it.How hard is it?It's not that difficult, assuming you have some automotive, or mechanical aptitude! If you've never worked on the truck before, go get a Chilton's, (thats what the main book was called when I did my own work), or other repair manual and follow directions! How hard is it?could be pump, lines or gear box.
